Mabalacat Settles 14-year Debt to PELCO II
Mabalacat City Government (MCG) and Pampanga II Electric Cooperative, Inc. (PELCO II) signed a Memorandum of Agreement on August 31, 2018 to settle the unpaid electric bills amounting to P68 Million that covers MCG’s electricity consumption for 14 years.
A Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) filed by the City's former administration in 2004 impeded the Cooperative from implementing necessary actions to collect the City's arrears that reached P220 Million, including penalties. But with the cooperation between the new administration of Mayor Crisostomo Garbo, and PELCO II's new management, Comstech Integration Alliance, Inc. (Comstech), led by General Manager, Mr. Amador T. Guevarra, the long standing impasse between them was settled where all penalties were waived and only the principal amount of P68M will be paid. Upon signing of the agreement, the City made an initial payment of P18M to PELCO II and shall pay the remaining balance yearly beginning 2019 up to 2023.
All payment received will be used by PELCO II in improving its services that will benefit not only the member-consumer-owners within the City but its whole area coverage including Porac, Lubao, Sta. Rita, Sasmuan, Bacolor and Guagua.
